Weird Post Editor Problem
-
Vague title…sorry. I’m not sure how to describe this one.
Sometimes when I open my blog posts, an external link icon appears next to the titles and the only option is to view the actual post on my blog. I have to log out and log back in, in order to access the post editor to make changes.
It might be relevant that my blog is over 8 years old. It’s bridged a lot of WordPress updates. If I’m having some kind of compatibility issues with new features or updates, that would explain why I’m only now starting to have technical issues despite having become very good with using WordPress over the years.
It also might be relevant that my internet router (not owned by me, I have no control over upgrading/replacing it) is a dinosaur and my very advanced beast of a laptop regularly loses connection despite having very strong WiFi connectivity capabilities.
Anyone have any idea what the heck is going on?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That’s a weird one. I checked several of your posts and I can’t see that link. May I ask you to grab a screenshot the next you see that link and upload it to your Media Library so I can have a look?

No problem. I’m so confused, lol. I have no idea if the issue will replicate itself, but here’s hoping…never thought I’d say that about a technical issue!

I just replied to your other thread, but if you see that again, a screenshot will be a huge help in trying to figure out what’s happening here.
If you’re not familiar with how to take a screenshot, this support document will help explain how to make one:
Thanks!

I’ve been watching for the issue to screenshot if it happens. Nothing yet. It’s like my parents’ old Volvo, lol. Its mechanical issues would magically disappear for the mechanics, then reappear as soon as my parents took it home.

It happened again–screenshots added to my Media! It’s weird–within this same login session I’ve opened and edited posts and pages without any problems. And it appears I don’t have to log in and out to fix it, I just opened the posts again after viewing the Media folder and now the edit option is back. Same goes for pages. So weird.

I apologize for the duplicate reply. I had thought the other one failed to post. Not trying to spam.

In the middle of using the post editor successfully, I hit “Update” and it said, “updating failed. Sorry, you are not allowed to edit this post” and when I backed out of the editor, all the external link icons were there and I had to refresh the page.
This is getting a little annoying…

Hi there,
Out of curiosity do you have this issue if you use Firefox instead? I noted that in your screenshots (in the media library) that you have seen this same issue in Microsoft Edge, and that browser happens to be built on the same architecture (Chromium) as Google Chrome itself, so it can sometimes have similar issues.
Firefox is built on a different architecture, so I would be interested to know if you have this same issue in that browser as well, thanks!
