weird question about pages and posts

other than creating a new page or post, there is no other way to generate a new link within a wordpress blog right (one that leads to text you’ve written)?

I can think of at least one. Comment on a post. You can link to each comment.

hehe..i’m just scrunching up my brow as I try to find a way to create a new link to text that I write… that I can post in a page. I -really- like my theme and don’t want to change it (plus, it’s a hassle!) but it lists subpages under the heading ‘sub pages’ which looks bad. I tried marking a sub page as private but then posting the link on the parent page, but in the link it then says ‘private’ which looks bad too. I’m trying to find some way around this..hehe.

wait..possible lightbulb non-blonde moment…hehe…theoretically, I think I could maybe create a text page in photoshop, load it up and i’d then have generated an image link, which I can post in the parent page I want it to go in.

I got around it, but my theme is different to yours; may as well give it a shot though…

Instead of making the subpages private, try this:

Step 1. Make a page, give it a name, make it private, make sure it is a top level page (no parent) and leave the page empty. Save.

Step 2. Make another page, put the text you want to use on that, then make the private page (from step 1) the parent of this page. Voila – an inconspicuous place to put stuff.

I hope this makes sense, I’ve put the example of what I did below, just in case it doesn’t.

On the site I am compiling at the moment, Getting teachers online, I made a parent page that I called “lid” then password protected it. It is not easily navigated to by visitors, but if you know the URI (http://howtobuildasite.wordpress.com/lid/) you can see that it exists.

I then typed the text I needed to include, The Blog Plan and listed it as a child under the parent page lid (however, I did not make this page private), and if you look at the URI of this page, you’ll see where it lives – hey presto, a page I could link to from a visible page (fourth link I think on the Start Here page)

I would love to know if it works for you because it was a bugger to work out :)
