weird referring site – reason to worry?

  • Unknown's avatar

I just checked my stats and I have a somewhat weird referring website there. It’s called legal5ounds(dot)com and I don’t see how it could be a real referrer. As (a) my blog has nothing to do with music, (b) they don’t seem to have something like a twitter/social bookmarking ticker which could explain this and (c) I can’t find any referring link by searchign their website.

Do I have to worry about some weird new form of spamming or something? Or should I just shut up and be happy that I get traffic?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It’s not real. Do not click the link. Yes, it’s spam. Simply report this to Staff > http://en.support.wordpress.com/

P.S. There other threads on this in the forum searchbox but it’s my opinion that sharing this on the forum is not the way to go.

I have a similar issue when checking one of my pages witha website called ‘boobieblog’ coming up. This was a real concern to me as my page is for a professional service.

    I appreciate your answer timethief.

Thank you timethief! Of course, dumb me did already click on the link. Time to virus-scan the computer, I guess, and learn for the future. :(

will something wrong happen if we click those weird referrings??

I often check where my referrer comes from…so I click the link

I have the same issue. Clicking on the site won’t do harm unless something was downloaded on to your computer (which requires permission). I was happy about getting bloated statistics…

No, sometimes just viewing can cause malware to be added to your computer. It’s always best to be careful.

I’m not sure why legal5ounds would link to my blog but I have
seen on non-Wordpress blogs that they leave generic comments,
I’d guess in the hope people will click on their link out
of curiousity. I wish they’d just get lost from my site – none
of their comments get registered because I’d guess they’re spam
and they just screw up the stats for the blog – they appear to
click on more than your homepage by the way. I wish there was
a way to block them from referring to my blog and they’ve been
referring 20 times a day now for three days. Some always try to
    ruin it for others…..
