Weird TinyMCE bug

This is repeatable in WordPress.com and WordPress.com. It happened to me in versions previous to 2.1, and took me quite a while to figure out.

If you make a link in the editor (text or wysiwyg) and the linked url has two dashes in a row, it mangles it the post, adding what’s under the link to the top of the post as well as under it. Seriously… What’s odder, the post looks fine in the editor, but is mangled in the preview window.

    An example

    http://www.dott07.com/blog/index.cfm/2007/2/5/Doors-of-Perception-9--Juice

    mangled my post

Used tinyurl for that url and it worked fine. There’s at least one news site (I forget which) where the urls always end with two dashes and I always have to use tinyurl.

    Can anyone else duplicate this?

Can’t say as I’ve ever experienced it, and I can’t use that link: it just takes me to the dott07.com home page. Can you give us another example?

Have you ever posted something about this in the WP.org forums or on their TRAC Dev list? I am sure drmike will take this over to WordPress MU with him as well.

Raincoaster. I meant, put the link in the wysiwyg editor, and then the weirdness happens.

trent, will take it to wp.org too.

Well I’ve noticed the intermittent Tiny MCE bug is back: when I post in IE6 and put in a link, then hit Insert, it blips for a second and then there it is again, blank. I kill that and the link goes in just fine.

It would be a core issue that should be sent in via feedback and posted over on the regular wordpress trac. It’s probably that texture script interfereing with the URL.

Easy way to get around it is to edit the Post Slug for the post and remove the dashes.
