welcome as set page, and posts on another page. Why doesn't it work?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello, I’m updating my website. I followed the instruction so my front page becomes my welcome page, a static page, and added a page titled posts, where I wanted my blog ‘Scribbling, Still’ (but I want to change the name) to be, and readers would click on this to reach the blog. It doesn’t work, and I now have two welcome pages. Help?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello Katia,

It appears as you have indeed set up your Welcome/front page properly as a static page.

However, in your menu, you’ve set Blog → Scribbling as a custom link. See here:

    https://katianovetsaintlot.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.php

Notice that your Blog → Scribbling link goes to:

    Welcome

That’s your home page, not your blog page.

    Your blog page is:
    https://katianovetsaintlot.wordpress.com/still-scribbing-sometimes/
That is the URL you should be using for that link.

Once you change that, and save your menu, things should work properly.

That should do the trick! If I can help in any other way, please drop me a line. Cheers :)

Thank you, thatrobyn. But now, I get an “oops, that page can’t be found” message… ?? Help, again :/

Thatrobyn, I now see what happened. There was an “l”missing in the link that you created for the blog. Is it possible for me to change that link, or it something that only someone else like you can do? Because I’m still unsure about the name…
    Thanks again for your help.

    Hey Katia!

I wanted to check in with you because it looks as if you adjusted that link spelling, and all is working well with your menu now.

    Nicely done :)

Please let me know if you have any other questions at all. Wishing you the best!

Thank you ! Yes, I think I figured that one out. I have another question, though. I’m trying to find a way to add the title of the blog at the top of the blog page. And the, I would have the title of each blog as I write them. I know I’ve seen that somewhere, but now, I can’t find that function anymore. Help again? :)

    Hello there!

I’m trying to find a way to add the title of the blog at the top of the blog page. And the, I would have the title of each blog as I write them.

We’re not entirely sure what you’re hoping to accomplish with these two questions. Could you please send me links to another site/page/post that displays both of your requests? That would help quite a bit!

    Thanks so much.

I’m sorry, you’re right, my question was very clumsy.
    Ok, this the link.
    https://katianovetsaintlot.wordpress.com/still-scribbing-sometimes/
I would like to have two headers, there. One permanent, with the name of the blog.
And another one, which would change each time I post something new, as it would be the title for the new post.
I saw that it was possible to do this, somewhere, but can no longer find where…
    Thank you :)

    Hello Katia!

On this theme, only the name of the Blog Post Title will display on this page. In this case, “A Serbian touch of humour” displays first, as it’s your latest blog post.

The blog title (Katia Novet Saint-Lot), and the page where your blog posts display (Blog –Scribbling, Still, Sometimes…) is highlighted in the menu bar. Those are the only areas where this can display on this theme.

Like the Demo page for the theme (https://confitdemo.wordpress.com/blog/), this is the only way it can display.

There are other themes that may allow the visible titling of your blog page. However, you’d have to take a look at their demo pages, to make sure they display in the manner you like.

Here is our theme showcase, if you want to take a look:

    https://wordpress.com/themes

Sorry I could be of more help with this. If you need further assistance, or have questions about other themes, please let me know.

    Thanks much!

    My pleasure, Katia!

Your site looks lovely and I’m sending you the best of luck with it — and the book!

    Take care.
