what am I paying for

Hi, I am very new into website building. I stumbled upon wordpress.com to build easy websites. WordPress is asking me to upgrade to a premium plan, but I dont understand what is that I will be paying for. Am I paying for hosting my website, or designing my website?

If for designing, can I pay onetime to design and then stop paying every month, as I don’t see any need to make changes every month.

Hi there, WordPress.com Upgrade will provide you with more flexibility like “domain mapping” “video uploads” “monetizing” and so on. You can read here for more information. https://en.support.wordpress.com/do-i-need-to-self-host/

The payment is not for hosting or designing your site, but more of taking advantage of what WordPress.com has to offer.

You would however still manage your own site when it comes to building the desired look and feel and content. There are ample themes available and editing them is pretty straight forward.

Hope this clarifies it a bit.

Thank you for sharing the link, this is what I found.

“WordPress.com Business Plan users get the best of both worlds: a fully managed and reliable hosting environment for your site and the versatility of specialized features formerly only available on self-hosted sites.”

It sounds to me that Business Plan includes hosting, am I correct?

Sorry I am unable to understand when you say it is not for design or it is not for hosting, then which category of service is the payment for.

All plans, including the Free Plan, on WordPress.com offer hosting.

WordPress.com restricts several features usually available on the self-hosted version of WordPress, unless you upgrade to the Business Plan. Those features include using plugins, more code, custom themes etc.

You do not pay for hosting on WordPress.com. When you purchase a paid plan, you pay for additional features to enhance your blog or website: https://wordpress.com/pricing

Hi there, hope you don’t mind me adding to this conversation.

Hosting on WordPress.com is always at no charge. Any of the upgrade plans add more features, such as a custom domain or domain mapping, additional storage space, direct support by Staff via email and chat, or removal of any WordPress.com advertising from your site. You can see the different features of each plan in this table https://wordpress.com/pricing/ and a fuller explanation can be found on this page: https://en.support.wordpress.com/plan-features/

WordPress.com is a DIY platform, starting with the template you choose, so you will be creating your site with information from our extensive support documents and guides.

Let us know if you have any other question about this.
