What are my options for making WordPress my website host?
-
I have a website hosted by mister.net and I want to know if I can switch to WordPress as website host. Can I use my other domain name (www.cynthiakuni.com – no “wordpress” in the url name) and merge it with my wordpress blog (ie have only one site)? If so, what is the cost? My current website, hosted by mister.net, is about $30/year and the content is made by me on iWeb software (though I wouldn’t mind writing new content with WordPress software). Mister.net’s FAQ says the following:
Q: What if I decide to go with another hosting company later on?
You have complete control over your domain name. You can login to your domain control panel at any time and change the nameservers info to the new hosting company. You are not obligated to use our free hosting services if your hosting requirements demand a different hosting environment.
That sounds to me like I can make the switch, but I don’t know what the story is on WordPress’ end and I don’t know if the price is competitive.Thank you!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi !
You can use cynthiakuni.com for your WordPress site, but you can’t transfer your domain. You’ll need to do a DNS Mapping, you can learn more about it here : http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are complete separate and different. Have you read carefully the limitations on WordPress.COM blogging? http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
There is one price for all of us for all upgrades. There are no discounts and no partial payments. We all pay the full amount at the time of purchase and all upgrade subscriptions are due for renewal in one year’s time.
WordPress.com provides free blogs and hosts them free of charge. There are no bandwidth charges. All WordPress.com blogs come with 3000 megabytes (~3 GBs) of space for storing uploaded files and images. Free features are listed here https://en.wordpress.com/features/
See here for details of all 3 plans http://store.wordpress.com/bundles/ offered by WordPress.com.

Yes, you can purchase a domain mapping upgrade to map to an existing domain. yes, you own your domain and can direct the nameservers wherever you want to whenever you want to in the future.
WordPress.com provides free blogs and free hosting for them. WordPress.com does not accept domain name transfers but mapping to an existing domain can be done.
Domain mapping of an existing domain URL that you already own and purchased elsewhere is not done free of charge. You will have to renew the domain name purchase where you made it and the domain mapping purchase here every year.
Important Notes Before Upgrading http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgrading
Mapping an existing domain costs $13. annually. In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from. If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog.
See here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.
