What are post IDs?

  you know the number next to the post in the dashboard? (next to when, title, categories, etc.). What do the numbers mean? do they have any affect on anything?

  A unique number is given to every post however, I’m not really aware of why or how it could be used.

  They have no effect. Databases work on numbers – and posts need numbers for that.
