What are publicize followers

  I have been getting a lot of followers to my blog lately. It lists blog followers including publicize separately from comment followers. I know what comment followers are.

  I also know what blog followers are. I am notified every time someone decides to follow my blog. But most of my recent followers are not blog types. I get 4 or 5 publicize followers for every one of the blog followers. I am not notified when these people subscribe.

  Does anyone know who they are or how they came to subscribe to my blog?
