What are the basic steps to make a app with wordpress?

  We use a MS Access database at our office for tracking simple activities related to projects. It needs to be modernized to a simple browser based multi-user application hosted on our network. After a very successful website redesign with wordpress I am hoping to do this with wordpress too.

  Can someone point me in the right direction for the steps to do this, if possible at all?
