What are the best tags to use to get on search engines?
-
I am fairly new trying to grow my blog readers. I only noticed being found through Bing 2x. My blog is on the topic of building a relationship with God, I want to reach further then my Facebook and Twitter contacts. Help?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Here is an excellent article by my fellow volunteer timethief about how to increase traffic to your site—it’s more than just selecting tags and cats:

The best way to reach interested readers is to use tags related to your content. You don’t want to use “News” for instance, because there are several million posts per day tagged News. Be as specific as possible.
Also, do not use the same term for both a category and a tag; that will get you classed as a tag spammer, and downgraded in search engines and not allowed in the Reader.

Wow, I did not realize tag and category terms had to be different, raincoaster. Thank you for that tip. 1tess, thank you for the link, will go read. Any other helps are welcome.

The support documents are helpful and searchable. This one might be useful:

I will look into that one also, 1tess. I read the first link and noticed it was closed for further discussion. She had a great list of 25 tips, but some of her terms went way over my head or some didn’t give an explanation. For example she suggested becoming a guest blogger on a high profile blog, but HOW do you become a guest blogger?? I wonder if the 2 of you, raincoaster also, could answer other questions? I am sure it’s too late now, so I can come back tomorrow to get more help if you could offer. So far you’ve been great. Thank you again, you both.
-
What other questions? I’m not a huge believer in guest blogging, actually; it seems spammy to me.
-
Really? In that case nevermind… maybe others feel the same way. It’s an idea the article gave. Man, last night I had so many questions in my mind… now I am blank… And it’s past midnight already. Maybe I should write them down and come back when I can think straight, haha. But you are very helpful. Thank you.

Oh, I can think of one right now… I changed my email in my profile, so I would receive emails at another address. But it sent me a verification email to confirm that new email. When I click on the link, it is a WordPress page to start a blogging. There is nothing on it that says verify email. I even waited couple days thinking maybe there is a glitch in the system and it should go back to normal, but no. Still opens a main page where you can open an account with WordPress. I tried signing in, but still there is no button to click on to verify my new email. So, I can’t even get emails right now at the new address until I can somehow verify my new email address. Maybe this is not a good question to ask you if it has to do with the Company I guess? I feel stuck.

What are the best tags to use to get on search engines?
Tags and Categories are treated the same way by search engines. Neither tags nor categories are required for SEO purposes.
The only categories/tags to assign to any post is the least combined number of the most relevant categories tags that accurately describe content.
http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2009/07/24/content-how-to-tag-and-categorize-it/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/#missing-postsKnow that search engines pay far more attention to your keywords in your content than they do to your keywords in Tags/Categories. Also know that Google has an algorithm that can detect if the categories/tags you are assigning to posts are keywords that do appear in the text of the post or not.
See what Matt Cutts says in the video here and read the full post for more information on tagging. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/03/01/revisiting-keywords-and-tags/

You have two separate email address settings at WordPress.com.
Blog notifications for the admin (like comment moderation, Likes, new subscriptions, etc) are sent to the email address at Settings -> General in the Dashboard.
Personal notifications (like comments on your post, subscription emails, and upgrade renewals) are sent to the email address at Users -> Personal Settings in the Dashboard.
Try changing it at http://wordpress.com/#!/settings/ first.
If that doesn’t work, try Users -> Personal Settings in your blog’s Dashboard.

There is nothing on it that says verify email.
P.S. Check in your email client spam filter for the confirmation email.

Thank you Timethief for chiming in. It is overwhelming to try to figure out things here on my own so the help is appreciated. In relationship to the email change, I did change it at the place you suggest, in settings. It keeps telling me that there is a pending email change that I need to verify first. But I can’t even verify it because the email I have received to go verify it takes me to the main page for WordPress. Try it for yourself. Try changing your email in the settings with an alternate email you have just for the test and see what kind of email you get and let me k now if you get the same page. You can then change it back to the original email you want. There is no way to click on any button to verify the new email. The page it opens is to start a new site with WordPress. So, I’ve been waiting all along on how to verify the new email I want to use.
-
I even deleted the new email address change and start over in case it the system was down that day I tried changing it and it didn’t work and I re-did it, still the same website comes up through the new email and I can’t verify my new email, so I can’t get it updated. Ughhh. Thank you for your help.

Thank you Timethief. I tried contacting them myself through the page that opens up also, but again, it takes me to a page to get started with WordPress. Very frustrating. So, I will appreciate hearing from them if probably their automated email has the wrong link in it. In that case no one trying to update their emails can be taken to the right place to verify new email. I will come back to look for a response from them.

Staff frequently disable the Support link and that causes the frustrating and loop back to the support forums. Not to worry as they will assist you here in this thread.
-
If you’re having trouble with the verification link, try copying and pasting the whole URL instead of clicking on it. You’ll also need to be logged in when you do it.
Please note that the link is time-sensitive, so you may need to save the change again to get a new link.

Finally it seems to have worked. I thought that by having the App open I was signed in all the time. I tried signing in before after the page opened but it didn’t work. This time I signed in FIRST, then I clicked on the link and it showed my new email address and for me to save changes at the bottom. I will know if it worked for sure when I get the first notification at that address… Thank you very much.
