What are the current IP number for WordPress.com nameservers?
-
The DNS system for our domain registrar requires IP numbers for ns1.wordpress.com, ns2.wordpress.com and ns1.wordpress.com please.
I have found an old post on this but it does not match the current IP numbers that are being used.
This is what I can see = please confirm
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
IP Address72.233.69.14NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
IP Address69.174.248.148NS3.WORDPRESS.COM
IP Address207.198.112.47The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

http://www.whatsmydns.net/ shows the below IP numbers that were found when I checked my two mapped domain names
CAUTION – WordPress.COM is in the cloud in three massive server farms and WordPress.COM uses dynamic IP addresses and will not guarantee that the IP addresses will remain constant – the addresses change based on server load and equipment status (is a router / server or something is down – I have seen some postings of problems in the forum that were traced back to using constant IP addresses

thanks @auxclass It is a condition of the domain registrar that IP numbers have to be supplied. Their system does not work with just the ns1.wordpress.com id etc. This is a common situation and there should be a workaround.
It would be better not to have to use wp nameservers but those are the rules.

You be welcome
The use of name servers is easier and more reliable according to the staff due to their architecture – I had a static IP address with my old host and still use the old static IP address as part of my email setup for my custom domain name
-
Thanks again Mike,
Most systems allow an “a”record to be pointed at the webhost but because of the dynamic? IP’s this is not possible.
Once we switch to wp DNS then we can “point” back to a static mx record for the email which is a convoluted way of doing it but needed in this case.

Who is your web host and have you considered getting one that can operate in the here and the now ie. cloud based reality?
-
Thanks. The domain is a .nz domain that cannot be provided from a US registry.
The registrar is http://www.domainz.net.nz/ it belongs to Melbourne IT Limited in Australia.
I suspect their dns system is not standard and a workaround exists but unfortunately no one knows what it is

I’ll tag this thread for a Staff response. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

I have seen many .nz domains mapped here with name servers.
The static IP address is usually used to point back to a server for email – I have email that is with my old host and uses a static IP address. the Name servers are the three standard WordPress.COM name servers for my mapped domain name and I set an A record here to point back to my old host as part of the email mapping
When I moved here there were 3 IP addresses for WordPress.COM and now there are 6.
We can flag this for the staff, but they will tell you about the same thing about using static IP addresses to point to WordPress.COM
-
Thanks to both of you. I would imagine it is a recurring issue and should not be this difficult to resolve. I am on hold to domainz right now and another staff member is trying to resolve.

You be welcome
I help in the forum quite a bit and a static IP TO WordPress.COM does not come up much. Maybe two or three times in the last six months –
There was a big problem with a couple of sites that were using some sort of caching site between their domain mapped blog and their customers – the system crashed a lot because of the dynamic IP addresses here

Hi jak1959,
The information from our volunteers is correct. We typically recommend people add our the nameservers rather than IP addresses because IP addresses can change over time.
If your registrar requires that you create A records, you may use the list below, but be aware that your domain might stop working at some point in the future. If that happens, please get in touch with us to find out the most current IPs and then update your A records accordingly.
Please be sure to create at least two, pointing to two different IPs from the list below:
72.233.2.58
76.74.254.120
74.200.244.59
74.200.243.251
76.74.254.123
72.233.69.6 -
Thanks Jackie,
Unfortunately the registry we use is the country domain registrar and we have to use IP numbers in their system otherwise it won’t save the information. It will not accept just NS1.WORDPRESS.COM or the others by themselves. I can’t change the registrar but have now updated to the numbers you have listed – thanks again.

Also the website has always been here on wordpress.com
Email is separate and I am using an mx record for that although I suspect it is incomplete.
I have updated the ip numbers and the domain being mapped to is tgf.co.nz – unfortunately making it the primary domain results in an infinite loop so I’m stuck

Hi there,
You need to give your domain a while to fully propagate. This is the process where the domain information is sent to all ISPs across the internet. With a country-specific domain, it can take a while. So be sure your custom domain is set as your primary domain in your Dashboard under Store > Domains, and give it up to 72 hours to completely update.
As far as the email goes, you appear to have an incomplete MX record, but we need to wait until your domain has propagated to sort that out. In the meantime, you can ask your email hosting provider for your A record, which should look something like: A webmail XX.XX.XX.XX
-
Thanks have added the a record for the webmail back in. It didn’t validate earlier but worked this time.
I have made the custom domain the primary and will just wait to see if that works.
The TTL was 86400 on the previous zone files ( I have a full set) so I was hoping that 24hrs would be enough to resolve to the new settings.
As noted before the website has not actually moved at all. It has always been here and the domain was redirecting to the wordpress.com location – only difference is that we want to use the custom domain without a redirect.
