What are the possible errors with the new "customize" screen

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m trying to use the customize tab of the “full frame” theme, to no avail. I get a small sidebar, with no tools loaded, and no preview.

Tested on multiple IP addresses, operating systems abd browsers, with clear caches.

Screens all look like this(browser trimmed. ff/ubuntu, all loaded. All elements had loaded in chromes element inspector network panell too(when tested in chrome).)

A maximum of a minuite was waited after the page had “loaded”.

    Is this a documented bug?
    Is there a fix?
    Where should I be looking?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Have you enabled third party cookies?

I do not use the theme customizer. All of the very same functions can be accessed from your dashboard.
    Appearance > Header
    Apperance > Background
Appearance > Theme Options (applicable only to some themes)
Settings > reading (set a static front page)
Site Title and Tagline > Settings > General

    Third party cookies are enabled.

Thanks for the advice about different places for editing the theme, but I’m working with some less technicaly adept people who’d apreciate the preview/etc.

    I’m subscribed.

    Thanks for your time.

    SOLVED:

I edited the landing page, which had been pointing at a dead page(previous admins efforts) and terefore rturingin a 404.

In a normal browser, this displays a prettified 404, which i expected to see in the preview.

I’m guessing the JS got a 404 back and stopped. (the div id=”customize-preview” was never replaced before, now contains an Iframe.)

Is this considered a bug?(It would be nice if it would fail a bit louder.) Should I hunt down the wordpress bug tracker and open one?

    Thanks,

    Sorry for wasting your time

It is a bug! It’s a problem in the core WordPress software. There is a bug report available at the following link if you’d like to follow along:
