What are the requirements to use a Recipe Plugin?

I would like to use a recipe plug in for my blog and am confused as to what the qualificaitons are in order to use this tool. I currently use the free wordpress.com site (thisrdeats.wordpress.com). If I were to upgrade to my own domain name (thisrdeats.com) would I be able to use the plugin? I post mostly recipes and it would be great to be able to have an option to print the recipe, rate, and use the other functions of a plugin.
    Thank you-

You cannot use plugins on a WordPress.com blog. The only upgrade that changes that is the $30,000 per year VIP program. You can do all of those things you are asking by other means. You have a Print button on your sharing options. You can use the WordPress rating system or a Polldaddy poll to rate it. You can list ingredients and instructions just by typing and formatting. What else do you need?

Please see https://www.getmecooking.com/recipe-template-info#gettingStarted for requirements for using the GetMeCooking recipe plugin for WordPress (.org – self-hosted solution).

You can try out plugins by creating a free test WordPress server on services such as Windows Azure http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/

She doesn’t HAVE a WordPress.org blog, and you’re only going to confuse her. So stop.

I was hoping to find a way to have readers just print the recipe and not the entire blog post. And can the rating system for my blog overall, or can it be set to rate each recipe?

@raincoaster – please look, I linked to documentation that explained the differences between .com and .org and then I told her about Windows Azure, which offers a free service for if she wants to try a .org (managed) WordPress solution. Plus I mentioned in my reply that it had to be .org.

Please note that I am one of the owners and developers of GetMeCooking.

@thisrdeats To confirm, you can only use plugins with a .org type WordPress installation, please see http://wordpress.org/ for information.

With our plugin, we don’t use a rating system, because they don’t work, see http://www.getmecooking.com/blog/rating-systems-for-recipes-they-dont-work. You can print just the recipe, even if you have more than one recipe on a page – our plugin lets users print the whole recipe with all photos, just the main photo or no photos.

This forum is for WordPress.com blog support. If you’re trying to talk her into a WordPress.org solution, this is not the place for it.

If you want to just print the recipe, just put the recipe in a post.
