What are the TXT, A, & SRV fields for when setting custom DNS records?
-
OK, I’ve entered the data to remap my Custom DNS Record fields so that I can redirect everything to my new email address with my internet provider here in Australia, iinet.
They have provided me with MX Record settings, and CNAME settings and I’ve entered them, validated them and saved them, and my email is working fine :) I’ve done test emails to my new address – it’s all go!
But I don’t know what the other fields that could be entered in the box are for, or whether I need to do anything about them. iinet have not provided me anything except the MX Record and CNAME record.
What does the TXT field do? Do I need to know? Should I do anything at all or just ignore it?
Same questions for the A field and the SRV field.
I know zilch about this. A little help from someone a bit more savvy than me would be appreciated :)
Thanks, Alec.
