What are the WordPress A Record or CNAME settings I need to map my domain?
-
I am trying to map my domain to my wordpress site and it is hosted at GoDaddy but all the nameservers are pointed at Yahoo because we have our business mail thru them. Yahoo just said that I need to get the correct A Record OR CNAME to update my DNS settings thru Yahoo and that should allow me to map my domain to my wordpress site. Can you give me the best record to fix this problem?

Hi,
Since you’re using a “root” domain (e.g. sourcepa.com instead of site.sourcepa.com), a CNAME record isn’t a good idea and the A record isn’t ideal since we host your site on multiple IPs that can change based on how we can best host your site.
The preferred way we can do that is we can setup WordPress.com to point e-mail to your Yahoo e-mail while changing the nameservers to WordPress.com.
According to http://www.whatsmydns.net/#MX/sourcepa.com, it appears your MX record would be 10 mx-biz.mail.am0.yahoodns.net
If you could confirm that those are the only DNS records they require for e-mail, you can add that via our Custom DNS tool, then change your nameservers to ns1.wordpress.com and ns2.wordpress.com. (When using the Custom DNS tool, you’ll see a warning about the nameservers. That’s fine since we want to set this up before making the actual switch to prevent any gap in e-mail deliverability.)
Please let me know if you have any questions or need any assistance in setting up the Custom DNS.
Thanks for using WordPress.com!
