What are these strange comments?

    Hi,

    I’m new to the blog and to getting comments so I am hoping someone can quickly explain something to me about comments.

    One of my new blogs got 9 comments in like 5 minutes, but they don’t seem to be from people, so I am wanting to find out firstly, what they are, where did they come from, etc…

    Those are known as “pings” or “pingbacks”. Every time you insert a link to one of those pages, it will notify the linked page via way of comment. It’s like it says, “Hey man, you’ve been linked.”

    You can disable them from Settings -> Discussion. You will see the option to:

    Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks.)
