What can I do to avoid offensive ads under my content?

    Hi there,
I run a volunteer community newsletter and I have recently become aware at the wildly inappropriate ads that are showing up based on “key words” in my posts. Being that I offer information and resources on addiction, having alcohol ads and pictures of drunk celebrities under my content is not acceptable. Is the only option I have to pay more money to have these removed? My address is http://www.derochedecibel.com

    Thank you for your time,
    Carrie

  • We sometimes display advertisements on WordPress.com sites, in order to keep free features free. We try to make the ads discreet and only run them in limited places. If you would like to completely eliminate ads from appearing on your blog, we offer the No-Ads Upgrade:

I’m seeing the typical ads on your site, for example, here is a screenshot of an ad for a hotel chain:

“Offensive” is, of course, a matter of opinion and I wouldn’t presume to tell you that something you found offensive was not. However, I think most folks wouldn’t call the ads on WordPress.com offensive. They all tend to run along the same line as the hotel chain one.

Can you send me a screenshot of one of these offensive ads? Here are some screenshot instructions if you are not familiar with the process:

I find http://snag.gy/ to be very useful for sharing screenshots. You can also upload it to your site’s media library.
