What can I do with CSS?

What can I actually do with the custom CSS? I’m starting a blog and I’m trying to figure out if I should buy webhosting or the CSS upgrade. I’ve got some html and dreamweaver experience so I think i should be able to handle myself with a webhoasting service. But if the CSS upgrade is enough for my needs why bother with that?

So what can I do with custom CSS? Can I change the background image? Can I edit widgets etc etc. Or is it just colours fonts and size? I really have no idea.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Custom CSS lets you add CSS to the CSS your theme supplies, or even replace it altogether. You’ll have to inspect the HTML for the pages in your theme to determine if you can customize it, hide unwanted elements, enhance others, according to the look you want.

You should check out the W3 schools tutorial on CSS, to see what it can do:

    http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp

    There’s plenty of examples there.

Just remember that all CSS lets you do is change the appearance of elements on your page, but it turns out that this covers a lot of ground. You can do a lot just with CSS.

dreamweaver experience will not help you at ALL with the CSS editing.

If you are not already familiar with CSS editing, do not buy the upgrade. Practice first and then, once you are confident you can make the changes you want, then buy the upgrade. We get a ton of people going “But I thought I could paste in other themes” etc and then wanting their money back. Use the free Preview to see if it is worth your while to purchase.
