What causes 0-byte XML Export files?
-
Recently I’ve been backing up my blog using the Tools | Export function.
After several successful backups, the last one a 55MB file June 29, I have been unable to save anything but a 0-byte file. When I click the “Save File” button, the window blinks instantaneously, a message flashes “All files have been downloaded”, and I am left with a 0-byte file. I thought this might be some type of temporary glitch, but the same thing happened 5 minutes ago.
Naturally, I’ve turned to third part sources, which don’t seem to have any problems backing the blog up, but I would prefer if possible to have the native WordPress.com XML backup file as well.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That happens when your blog is too big for the export process to handle the whole thing – you end up with nothing in the export file.
You’ll notice that there are now controls in the exporter for you to limit the export by date range. You’ll need to break up your export into more than one file (dates are the easiest way to do it) in order to export it successfully.
