What customization features do we have in the Premium or Business Plan?
-
Hi, we are planning to work on a wp site and our business team likes two themes and wanted to know if we can use the layout of Avid[1] and use the hover-over effect from Puzzle[2]. We have in-house developers to do this but dont know what level of access we have (css, js, php templates) while being hosted on wordpress.com.

Hi there. I don’t know if it will allow you to do what you want to do, but the only customization we can do on WordPress.com is to add/replace the theme’s CSS (the custom design upgrade included in both premium and business bundles give this ability). We don’t have any access to the underlying files, nor can you edit the theme’s stylesheets directly, only override them with your own CSS code. You also cannot add any JavaScript or Flash code, regardless of upgrade.

You are not allowed to access and modify js / php files on WordPress.com (even on the WordPress.com Business plan) due to security reasons.
WordPress.com is a shared environment and allowing access to js /php has the potential to compromise the security of the whole environment.
Self hosted WordPress.org seems to be the best fit for your requirements.
