What did I buy?

  • Unknown's avatar

Folks, I upgraded to Premium hoping to have more editing abilities on our church website. So I am confused,.. did I buy a “separate” blog package, which I DO NOT need or will use,.. or can I use the things I purchased to improve our website, such as getting away from black background, white print, or white background, black print? Thanks

Sorry,.. the website I need help with is; http://www.ststephensforest.org

  • Howdy,

Your site at http://www.ststephensforest.org/ is using WordPress.org, which is the free software that runs on your own server. The package you bought is for WordPress.com, a fully-hosted solution. More about the difference can be seen at WordPress.com and WordPress.org.

I’ve refunded your purchase, which should be seen on your credit card in the next day or so.

Some of the changes you mentioned can be done via the Appearance->Customize menu on your site’s dashboard. There are other options, such as choosing a different theme for your site. A number of free themes that have been reviewed to ensure they’re safe to use are at http://wordpress.org/themes/

Community support for WordPress.org sites is located at http://wordpress.org/support/

    Cheers!

BJ, Thanks for your action and the information! I’ll keep inmind the “fully hosted solution” in the event I want to move from MacHighway. If I do so I understand I would be able to transfer our site fully and also gain the added editing abilities I seek?? Going to research some more, Blessed holidays!

BJ, it looks like we could go either way,.. we signed up to be Amazon Associates, meaning we can put their logo on our .org site and we received a % of sales when folks click on the Amazon logo on our site. Could we do this on a WP.com site?

  • We don’t allow advertising on WordPress.com, so a banner image or something of that sort isn’t allowed.

We’re cool with affiliate links in general, though, so if you had, say, a page of books and resources that the church suggested to your members, you could use affiliate links to those products.

If you have any questions or need clarification, please let me know. Cheers!
