What did I do to suspend my old site?

    I had forgotten about this site and upon re-discovering it started to update it. Suddenly it has been suspended and I don’t know why. I may have inadvertently done something wrong in attempting to edit the home page to bring it up-to-date or this is just because the site has been dormant for years. I got a message saying I can back it up but WordPress says I can’t because it can’t read the files or something.
    HELP please. It’s a simple free site and I’d like to update it because of new issues that it can address this week.
