What do I do about an e-mail address conflict?

  • Unknown's avatar

I somehow created a phony account where the user name is the address of my gravatar picture. Worse, it has the e-mail I currently prefer as its email, so I can’t switch my real accounts e-mail to what I want, because I get the “e-mail currently in use” notification. How do I completely kill this phony account? The username is g2-d5d821cd9a153de9df40eec30fb1e777

    Hi there!

You’ll need to first log in to the account for g2-d5d821cd9a153de9df40eec30fb1e777

Since you have access to the email assigned to it, you can reset the password by entering the email address here:

    http://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

Please follow the instructions carefully. You’ll receive an email during the reset process, so please make sure you read it for instructions.

Once you can login as the user g2-d5d821cd9a153de9df40eec30fb1e777, then following these instructions to change its email to something other than your preferred address:

    Change Your Email Address

Make sure to use a valid email address, as you will need to confirm the new email. This will free up your preferred email address to be used with your normal WordPress.com account, following the same steps.

If you wish, you can then adjust the unneeded account’s username to something else with these steps:

    Change Your Username
