What do I do when a "powered by WordPress" site is impersonating me.

Both sites upgraded to their own domain .com addresses, but both footers say the Powered by WordPress line.

They are using my HubPages user name as the author of their content and is sort of spammy content. A lot like the spammers that would attack Bubblews when it was up and running, but in their own website.

I’m not sure what they are up to, but I e-mailed the contact address and asked for a response as to why and what.

Language and images seem to be translated very badly and probably just copied from sites around the interned.

Not sure what to do, so I thought I would reach out. Thank you in advance for anyone who can point me in the right direction. I am the only one on HupPages with the user name of Nancy Owens. These sites are not LINKING to my articles. They seem to be impersonating me. That’s what the web sites are saying: Nancy Owens on HubPages. The sites are as follows: http://www.currywurstnyc.com/?s=nancy+owens+on+hubpages AND THE OTHER ONE: http://wupnet.net/nancy-owens-on-hubpages.html

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Neither site is hosted by wordpress.COM. Contact the web host for each site and undertake a DMCA process.

Copyright Infringement – What to Do

  • HI there,

As @timethief said, those sites are not hosted by us, so we can’t do anything against them. They’re using the open source WordPress software that literally anyone on the internet can use for any purpose they wish. The use of that software is not regulated or tracked in any way – you download it and then you can run it on any server you want.

Both those domains are registered with name.com, and appear to be hosted with cloudflare.com, so you can try to contact those two companies to report these sites, but to submit a DMCA notice they need to be actually copying your content. If they’re just using your username but posting their own content (whether it’s spammy is irrelevant as far as a copyright claim goes) I don’t think there’s much anyone will be able to do.
