what do my readers need to do to comment on my blog
-
Do my readers have to register for a wordpress site to comment on my site? Is it possible for them to register just to post comments. If so how? I think the registration process may turn some commenters off.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That’s a actually a setting that you can disable via Settings -> Discussion in your blog’s Dashboard.
It’s basically just a very strict anti-spam measure, and definitely not for everyone.

Thanks for that. I have adjusted that settings and asked that my readers basically be asked nothing to post but I tried it and it still asks for username and email address. I have checked and I have left that particur box empty. Is there something else I need to do the make this work?

I have made all the appropriate changes but my readers are still being asked to set up a wordpress blog in order to post. This is scaring people off!
https://en.wordpress.com/signup/
This is the sign up form that comes up. It asks for a wordpress blog address which, granted, is free, but people just don’t want to do that to comment on a blog.
I have left the following boxes unchecked:Comment author must fill out name and e-mail
Users must be registered and logged in to commentYet my readers are asked to set up a blog. Please help.
-
You MUST check the first one. You must NOT check the second one.
Select: Comment author must fill out name and e-mail
Until you do this, the situation remains as you’ve reported. SELECT that box.

Thanks for that, checked the “name and email box” and did not check the other one. I then tried to register as a new person and it is still asking me to sign up for a blog. Is there something else I am supposed to do?

Did you log put of wordpress.com? WordPress.com uses cookies to keep track of users so if you do not log out so your cookies are not cleared and the software will recognize you and ask if you want to register a blog.

I just left a fake comment that is waiting for moderation on your site – was logged out and used a fake name & email – I was not ask to join anything – I fail to see what the big deal is.

Yes, I logged out. I tried it on another unrelated computer, just in case it was associating with me somehow even though I had logged out. It still asks to set up a blog if you want to post. You can look at it on rehabhub.com.au. Thanks for your help.

There is no problem for me. I left a comment in moderation. http://rehabhub.com.au/2011/02/25/hello-world/#comment-12

Thanks, I have sorted out the problem. I thought you had to “register” to leave a comment, which of course means registering for a wordpress blog. I have just realised that my readers need only type into the reply section which does not require that.
“I fail to see what the big deal is” The big deal was that I didn’t want my readers to have to register for wordpress blog.
All assistance appreciated, thank you!
condescention, not. -
The NBD was that I was able to leave a comment without registering for anything on your site – which is the way my site is set up also – as you have figured out – the easier it is for someone to leave a comment the more likely they are to contribute to your site.
