what do you want to see fixed or improved?
-
every day, plenty of troubleshooting and complaints go around in the forum. if the regular contributors like drmike cannot help us solve our problems, the feedback would always be suggested. but how many really use the feedback? i know i don’t most of the time, because i feel some of the kinks that happen in my blog are too trivial to warrant a feedback. so i usually don’t and hope it will resolve in time – most of which does. or waiting for theme updates like fauna because you think others might have sent a feedback for that and it’s pointless being so repetitive once wp has that in their list.
excuse my longwindedness, but my thread here is to compile a list of things you would like wp to see improve, updated, fixed, whatever trivial things you want but feel is too trivial to send a feedback. i will send a feedback to them later with this list, and refer them to this thread.
my list so far (as i can think of at the moment, i will probably be adding to this later):
1. update of the fauna theme!
2. closing up the space between the number of posts and the categories / months in the categories and archive widgets. the numbers are currently in a separate line from the categories / months, making the sidebar unnecessarily longer.
3. customised header images for the rest of the themes which are not.

I’ve got the feed for the thread so I’ll be reading :)
Feedback – if something is broken, send it in and I’ll get to it.1 – I believe Andy has stated that when Joen has it finalised it will be brought in.
2 – I haven’t checked but as widgets are list items in the sidebar then the spacing of that would be determined by the theme. Could be wrong..
3 – I’m sure that will happen for those themes with header images. Some themes have no images so it would be much harder to do.[Link added – drmike]

Podz – I’m with sulz. The issue is on 2 is that on the Regulus theme the arabic number following the catgory and subcategory name(s) are coded to be placed on the line below the category and subcategory name(s), rather than on the same line. This creates a doubling of the space used in the sidebar.
It’s my understanding that adjusting the code to place the arabic number on the same line as the category or subcategory name(s) would not be a huge undertaking. Am I wrong on that?

Sometimes posts disappear from the main page but show up again a few minutes later. I always think that visitors won’t see them either. So I go edit a post but I don’t edit anything. I just click save. Then all the posts are back again on the main page. :)

I love the Regulus theme. But I’ve run across several things that I would love to see fixed in it. Most of what I want has to do with the way the theme strips out tags, on a seemingly random basis (at least to me). I had a heck of a time getting something posted today that needed to be put up quickly so I copied and pasted it from an email that I had just received. It was formatted in HTML but Regulus ignored the formatting, especially the italics tage and the bold tag. The spacing issue around pictures is another thing.
My sense is that it would be helpful to have some basics that <b>all</b> themes must adhere to and that there needs to be a comprehensive list on what themes can and cannot do.

ooh, that saves me a trip to the feedback form – thanks podz. (that’s the extent of her laziness – you’d think the feedback form is across the hall. lol)

More people visiting my blog :D
Seriously, I’ve only been blogging for about 2 weeks, and I haven’t found much with wordpress I’d want to change. Now I’m finding my feet, more flexability to change the layout etc of the templates would be nice, but I understand that’s not exactly straightforward to implement.
Any changes that provide more options you can change, more ways you can customise your blog would get 2 thumbs up from me.
Cheers

There seems to be a problem in the regulus theme regarding the html code for spacing before and after images being stripped out that requires a fix please refer to this thread for greater clarity http://wordpress.com/forums/topic.php?id=584&replies=11#post-17768.

jb510 and I think “there ought to be a way to skip the crop tool if your header is already sized appropriately.” At the moment, it’s preventing using animated gifs (for a slideshow in the themes with a bigger header, like Benevolence or Ambiru, for example), which would be very, very useful in certain instances. I love the ability to make custom headers and am delighted that you’ve done this, btw! Having a “save without cropping” button shouldn’t be difficult to add, though? Please please? :)
-
– Fix the reply box and the comment box if possible for those with IE or get Microsoft to admit that they don’t follow standards. (I don’t know which would be more possible)
– Give Ambiru (that’s the skinny green one, right?) and Girl in Green widget support.
– Bring back the autoresponders on the feedback form. (I send in a couple a day, ususally for items here in the forms or spammers that I find. It was the only way I was able to keep track of what was going on.)
– Get staff to hard code a header to the forums suggesting to visitors that if they have an offsite blog, they need to be over in WP.org land.
– Give drmike a raise.
– Give patriotsfan his custom header even though the Patroits are going to get their butts kicked this year. :) (Gotta admit that I would like to see it as well.)
– Most of the themes seem not to have Previous/ Next links on their single.php page. That is something that I think is necessary on any theme since it makes the visitor have to use their backspace to get back to the flow of the blog.
– I don’t mind that themes with hard coded body widths but we need some with a width of more than 450. I know on the webcomic, most of the widths of the images I use are 480 pixels.
– Turn off TinyMCE as the default.
– Find out what really happened to Jimmy Hoffa.
– Google and Yahoo Sitemap verification. (Didn’t we work out a method on how to do this on the MU forums?)
– More widgets. (ie coComment, Weather, etc.) It seems like we’re OK with Javascripts as long as the user input for them is just text strings since we’re doing this on the Flickr one.
– I would like to have a link to the WHOIS lookup over on DNSStuff.com here in the forums. I find myself doing cut and pastes of the IP addresses quite often and somedays it’s kind of hard for me.
That’s what I got off the top of my head.

Also widgets for Fresh Bananas? Would be a very flexible theme if it had that option. In that vein, more themes without dates/categories/author names on top of non-blog blank pages, like White as Milk and Neat.(if there’s a way to get rid of these, I don’t know what it is) This is not a set of serious complaints, just a vague wishlist.

I’m really iffy about getting foreign language Posts in my wp-admin/index.php feed along the bottom.
-
Yes, I’d like them excluded from Next Blog as well and not have my screen filled with ????? every time I click that link. Or, because I know not everyone’s a monoglot, I want to be able to select which languages I want to see.
I would like global tags on posts to be labelled so people know that when they click the link they’re leaving your blog, and not viewing all your posts in that category (very confusing behaviour for those who are used to reading self-hosted wp blogs). I would also like my global tags to work properly again.
Finally, I would like to be able to change the colour of the ugly blue navbar to something less ugly, such as grey. And a choice of colour schemes for the admin pages would be very useful for those running multiple blogs.

@drmike and wank
I speak only one language – English. I also understand a smattering of Spanish as I have a Latin background. So “yes” I would also like to be able to select the language I want to see and not have my screen filled with ??? when I click on a “next blog” link.
I also don’t want to click on a “next blog” link and end up on a mature content adult site (porno) site either. The other day I clicked on a top blogs or growing blogs or top posts or whatever site and surprise! I found myself on a Spanish language site that was streaming adult videos. The posts consited of galleries of photos of large breasted unclothed and semi-clothed women. There was nothing in the least bit artistic about these photos, the women were being depicted as objects – masturbation stimuli.
I haven’t noticed the “global tag” phenomena but I most certainly only want the readers of my blog to be clicking on my blog posts in my categories and not to be unexpectedly leaving my blog to view posts on other blogs. If this is how they are working (or shall I say not working) now then I would like to see that changed.
I do run multiple blogs and I have only occasionally experienced a problem with confusing admin pages for one with another. I do think having different colours for the admin pages of each blog would be helpful in preventing me from confusing them again. But I personally could care less whether or not my navbar is blue or even dare I say it “pink”. Grey is not a preferred colour choice of mine as it is ill defined and thus visually challenging.

“Give patriotsfan his custom header even though the Patroits are going to get their butts kicked this year. :) (Gotta admit that I would like to see it as well.)”
haha drmike, are you sick of hearing him repeat his request like tt and i? jk patriotsfan =P
veltis: ditto – i like fresh bananas, and even better if we could make the white header image-customised! (but that’s theme-dependent, isn’t it? oh well)
podz: are you sure you’re reading this? if you are, can you tell us what among the many suggestions we have given can be done by wp in the near future?

hahaha I agree give me the header ; ) lol just playen. But I have noticed a few people would also like it. (I see you live in Charlotte Dr Mike, ESPN said it will be patriots and panthers in the superbowl ; )

Haven’t had too many problems. One thing that puzzles me. “search this blog” doesn’t often turn up results, even though I know it is something that is in there. Perhaps I am missing something. It turns up no results, even when typing in tags.
Seems you almost have to have the post title to find anything, which seems silly. Maybe it is like not being able to look up a word in the dictionary because you don’t know how to spell it. LOL.Oh and one other thing … when is spell check going to recognize the word ‘blog’? :)
