what does “awaiting moderation mean and how can I fix this?

Most bloggers moderate all comments so they can be sure to read them first prior to approving them so spam does not get posted to their blogs. There is nothing to “fix”. In fact failing to moderate comments is not recommended at all because over 80% of all so-called comments submitted daily to WordPress.COM blogs is spam.
