What does it mean that a new blog address is "reserved"?

  • Unknown's avatar

I want to start a new blog and the address is reserved. However, when I type in that address, it does not exist. Can I still not use it? The address I want to use is madeleinehawks.wordpress.com

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. When someone registers a username, the blog address matching that username is automatically reserved for them and no one else will be able to register it, whether they are using it or not. http://en.support.wordpress.com/create-a-blog/#additional-info

Unless you’re somehow able to track down the person who registered that username and can convince them to register and then transfer the site to you, there’s no way you can get that address. (The only way I know of to do that is via the Gravatar website and I already checked – there are no contact details or websites shown on the Gravatar profile for the username madelinehawks.)

I suggest you try creating a different free address, or see if the one you want isn’t available to register as a custom domain: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
