What does the red warning sign mean next to a blog name in "My sites"?
-
Dear all,
this is puzzling: the “My sites” tools on WordPress.com has been displaying a red warning sign next to two of my self-hosted blogs names. What does it mean? There is absolutely no explanation given for this. Thanks in advance for your help.
Best regards,
David.

Could you click on the red sign and see if it displays the information.
My self-hosted blog has an orange update icon, which if I click says: There is an update available.

I just experienced this too. I received this warning”Jetpack 3.3 is required. Update now.” Once I clicked on Update Now I was directed to log-in to my site and upgrade Jetpack. Once this was done the warning was no longer!

Thanks chaitanyamsv for the quick reply! I tried several times: there is no “tooltip” popping up when pointing to, nor link redirection available when clicking on the red warning sign.
Where the mystery thickens is that when I login on WordPress.com and check “my sites”, it does not show up at first glance, only after one minute or two… Really not useful (and stressful) feature IMHO!
Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks Karyn for the info, but:
- I updated to JetPack 3.3 on my site several days ago;
- JetPack on my site is correctly configured and linked to my WordPress.com account.
Could this be the case because I still haven’t activated the brand new “site management” features (to “manage all your plugins from a central dashboard”) ? This features looks cool, but I have to understand all the consequences before switching it on.
Thanks again for your help.

It looks like the JetPack connection for those two sites is corrupted. Could you try disconnecting and reconnecting them? That should take care of the problem.
Let me know if you continue to see the warning after you reset the connections. . .
Thanks!

Thanks a lot Liz for the tip! There are currently two links at the bottom of the Jetpack page in the Jetpack menu:
- “Disconnection from WordPress.com”
- “Disconnect your account”
I clicked on the second one and it brought me to a page where I can “reconnect” Jetpack to my WordPress.com account. I did it… and nothing changed: the red warning signs are still there in the “my sites” list.
Last time I experienced Jetpack connection issue, it was something related to my hosting provider, could it be now something else that has to do with plugins? Should I activate “website management through WordPress.com” to help you sort things out? Thanks in advance.

Hi David,
There is definitely a problem with your JetPack connection, but we are going to have to dig a bit more to figure out how to resolve it. I’m going to pass your question on to our JetPack experts. You’ll get an e-mail follow up soon.

Could you please try disconnecting and then reconnecting Jetpack to WordPress.com?
To do so, navigate to Dashboard > Jetpack. Then, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the “Disconnect from WordPress.com” link. After doing so, click the “Connect to Get Started” button to reconnect.
If that doesn’t take care of it there are some other debugging steps we can take, but this one is the easiest, (and its the one that worked for David) so we’ll start here.

It did not work. Now I have another problem. When I try to re-connect I get this error message:
Your website needs to be publicly accessible to use Jetpack: site_inaccessible
Error Details: The Jetpack server was unable to communicate with your site [HTTP 403]. Ask your web host if they allow connections from WordPress.com. If you need further assistance, contact Jetpack Support: http://jetpack.me/support/ -

I am now missing some page content. :-(
