What does "the uploaded file is not a valid image" mean?

    When I try to upload a new image for my background, I keep getting an error message saying, “The uploaded file is not a valid image. Please try again”. I have no idea what this means? “Not a valid image?” What doest that mean? Why doesn’t it give more information so I know what to do?

    What type of image are you trying to upload? WP only accepts certain file types:

    Standard

    Currently, you are permitted to upload the following file types to your WordPress.com blog (no upgrade required):

    Images
    .jpg
    .jpeg
    .png
    .gif

    Accepted File Types
