What domain should I use during my website creation

    Hello WordPress community !

    Here is my situation :

    I do have a website 8inasia.com made with 100% coding (codeigniter) but would like to create a new one via WP in order to have more flexibility.
    My goal is to create on the side on new WP website while my current is still working and selling.

    My questions are :

    – I do have other domains that are not being used at the moment (8inasia.fr and 8inasia.de). Can I use those domains for building the website and then transfer everything to the final domain (8inasia.com) ?

    What would the best option in my situation ?

    Hi there,

    Yes you can fully set up your new site with us before pointing your final domain here. That way your current site can stay “live” until your new one is ready.

    When you first create your site we will assign a staging subdomain you can use to get set up in private. If you wish you can use the address we provide, and that will save you the effort of connecting your .fr and .de domains.

    When you are ready to “launch” the new site to replace the current one, that is when you will want to “map” or transfer 8inasia.com to us. This will essentially replace your existing site with the new one set up here on WordPress.com, and the process will be seamless for visitors. The old site will simply be inaccessible and all traffic will flow to the new site.

    Thank you very much for your answer, it’s clearer now.

    Just to be sure.
    It means I need to buy a plan with WP, build the website under the URL 8iasia.wordpress.com and then when I am done tranfer it to my final URL 8inasia.com

    Is that correct ?

    Hi! You can build your site under 8iasia.wordpress.com. When you add 8inasia.com to it, it will replace the wordpress.com address for your visitors. If you ever remove 8inasia.com or stop using a plan here, the address will go back to 8iasia.wordpress.com. Let us know if you need more help!
