What drives a post to hit the search engines?

  i wrote a post about Christmas last year, and for some reason this season it hit the search engines big time. I started getting around 150 page views a day on this post in November and that went up to about 250 the past two weeks. Then all of a sudden on Friday of last week, it was like a switch was turned off and I dropped to like 10-15 views the past 3 days. Any idea why this sort of thing happens? I’m not very SEO savvy so any advice would be helpful! Thanks!

  This month ie. December is the lowest traffic month that my blogs experience each and every years for 5 years running now and yes I also have Christmas posts.
