What exactly does Mapping mean?

  I don’t understand what “Mapping” means.

  I have a domain registered with Domain .com.

  (Jimmysgroovysite) for example

  And a website hosted on earthlink, (that I haven’t touched in three years)

  I want to now have the website on WordPress (where I have a different blog and a domain registered http://www.toourlittlegirl.com)

  I don’t understand what ‘mapping’ will do.

  Will I be able to create a new website for the domain name that remains at domain.com, and domain .com simply points at the new website residing on WordPress?

  I understand what I’m supposed to do at Domain . com. (your instructions seem pretty straight forward)

  I don’t understand what I’m able to do at WordPress , and how I set up the new website.

  What I don’t understand is what will happen at WordPress.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Mapping just takes your custom domain, whatever.com, and connects it with your WordPress.com site. Until you do that, it won’t work.

  I don’t need help with toourlittlegirl

  I want to move a site from earthlink, to WordPress.

  I can’t register my site at WordPress. The domain registration has to remain with domain.com

  What i want to know about mapping, do I set up a new site, with my domain name, on WordPress, and when it’s all ready, pay for mapping and redirected it from earthlink to the WordPress site?

  you set up a new site new-site.wordpress.com – then you move content from where ever you stuff is now – Export then Import to here – then you domain map your existing name to your blog here

  How do I set up a new site at wordpress, with the same name of the domain I already have registered elsewhere? The domain I’d be mapping?

  I don’t understand what I create or name at wordpress that would allow me to build the new site here, with the mapped name registered elsewhere.
