What exactly is a “Front page” and “Posts page” (in Reading Settings)?

Under settings -> reading settings -> front page displays -> a static page and then it says “Front page” and “Posts page.” What exactly are these? And how can we find them? (What could the url’s be?) My blog is at http://sunnydaymiasma.wordpress.com/ , maybe someone can define and/or find those two …? I think its just the terminology confusing me.

When I set “posts page” to the page that I made, “blog” http://sunnydaymiasma.wordpress.com/blog , instead of showing the page, it shows my recent posts. Why?
