What happened to “display name publicly as…”?

I have two blogs: http://06880danwoog.com and http://staplessoccer.com. I have my posts appear under different names (“Dan Woog” and “Staples Soccer”), and change the setting based on whichever blog I’m editing. However, the “Display name publicly as” option seems to have disappeared from the “Your profile” page — probably since I updated my profile under the new Gravatar option. I’ve searched everywhere and can’t find it. Any thoughts?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

dashboard —> users —> your profile —> “Display name publicly as”
don’t forget to scroll down and update

    The list under Users is
    Authors & Users
    Invites
    Your Profile
    Personal Settings

I know — that’s where it’s always been. It’s not there any longer — that’s why I posted the question. All that’s there now is my gravatar photo, and this: “This information will be displayed publicly on your profile. You may also edit your profile at gravatar.com. Were you looking for your API Key and other Personal Settings?”

But there’s nothing when I click on the API Key/Personal Settings link either.

The “display name publicly as” option has disappeared.

One of my test blogs was left with that page open and it hadn’t updated to the new list, so other than suggesting you clear browser cache and cookies, restart, I’m out of ideas then.

I cleared browser cache and cookies — it’s still disappeared from both blogs. Could it be related to the fact that the new, upgraded Gravatar has a “display publicly” option too (although that only gives one option, not a dropdown list)?

A couple of other threads have reported the same issue. It’s possible they’re related, but only staff can say. This WILL annoy a lot of people.

When the announcement was made I thought this “Profile” was a good thing. However, in the end I deleting all the information I entered except “timethief” which I cannot delete. I spent ages straightening out my passwords as well. Now your gravatar passwrod and your password for your blog are the same! Arrggghh!

    @dwoog
I have found it here. Settings > Your Public Profile
This information will be displayed publicly on your profile. You may also edit your profile at gravatar.com.
Were you looking for your API Key and other Personal Settings?

Just under Full Name I have:

    Display name publicly as _______

  • Unknown's avatar

Sorry, Timethief. I have clicked on that “Were you looking for your API Key and other Personal Settings” link. I STILL cannot find “display name publicly as” ANYWHERE — except on the Gravatar profile. I guess I will have to delete all that info and see if that works.

    On this page http://MYBLOGNAME.wordpress.com/wp-admin/users.php?page=grofiles-editor
    where it says

    Your Public Profile

This information will be displayed publicly on your profile. You may also edit your profile at gravatar.com.

Were you looking for your API Key and other Personal Settings?

I scroll down and find this >/em>

    Basic Details

These basic details just help people find out who (and where) you are. You cannot change your username.
    Username timethief
    First name
    Last name
    Full name
    Display name publicly as__timethief___

So basically you are saying that from now on I have to edit my profile via GRAVATAR every time I want to change my “public name” — not through the “Your Profile” dropdown menu as before. In other words, I now have more clicks to get through each time I want to change my public name.

Is there any way to delete my new Gravatar profile completely?!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Yes.

And no, not as far as I know without contacting staff and MAYBE they’ll delete it for you. I expected something like this when WP bought Gravatar.

  • Unknown's avatar

I removed all my data from both Gravatar and from my blog Profile page.

    Dang! I clicked too soon.
    From Gavatars’s common questions page:
    Please delete my account!
I’m sorry, we currently don’t delete accounts. If you remove all the images from your account, however, this simulates your account being deleted as far as the outside world is concerned.
