What happened to Distraction-Free Writing?
-
Practically overnight, the old distraction-free writing mode in the visual editor, the one that was actually distraction-free (just a white screen with your text and header) is gone from my text editor — clicking the option now just hides the sidebars and makes the top bar opaque, and everything on the page returns if I move my mouse cursor off the text window. I used to enjoy using DFW to post, and the way it works now (which is not reflected in the support documentation at all and feels like a bug) is pretty subpar. Is this a problem on my end?

I am using the classic editor though, and it isn’t working like it used to even there. I’m not using the new editor. However, I just tried making a post in the new editor, and checked the DFM there, and the distraction-free mode on there is actually working compared to what’s going on in my classic editor. So I guess I’ll just use the new editor.

Hi there,
We’ve updated the distraction free writing feature in the classic Dashboard. Now, when you are in distraction-free writing mode, whenever you type within the editor, the sidebars of your Dashboard will fade out. But when you mouse around or click outside of the editor, those options come right back.
This way, you don’t have to click in and out of the full-screen editor in order to do anything. It’s meant to be an improvement, but if you don’t care for it, you can still use the one in the new editor. :)
Let me know if you have further questions!
