What happened to my classic post and edit pages?

  • Unknown's avatar

How do I get my classic posting and editing pages back? Can anyone tell me how, I really am lost on the new one. I made the mistake of clicking the button for the new one and my site is stuck with the new one.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    https://fearsomebeard.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php

You can bookmark that for future use.

You can also get there from any page while logged into WordPress.com via the dropdown on the left side in the Admin bar above, but first you will need to access the WP Admin Dashboard:
Hover your mouse over My Sites>Switch Site>YourSite>WP Admin

From there you will see in the sidebar a link to Posts>All Posts>Add New.

Please let us know if this solves the problem for you or whether you continue to be redirected to the New Post Editor after logging in.

Yes, but unfortunately editing an old post is not so simple. The only way at present is to list posts from the Dashboard, then find your post, then click on Edit.

The reason for this current spate of compalints is that the option to switch has been removed. (ell, the option to switch to the new is still present, but the option to switch back has gone).

why can’t the button be just put back for classic editor? The new one doesn’t have all of the old options. I don’t understand this move to an editor that is substandard, buggy and doesn’t fit the needs of the community.

    @knashermac2009

I understand that the option to switch back to the Classic Mode from the New Post Editor has been removed. Here is the main thread on that topic: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/new-improved-edit-interface-is-still-deleting-numeric-tags/page/2?replies=32#post-2310386.

I understood the OP’s question as how to return to the Classic Editor mode and answered that. That is also why I requested that the OP advise if he or she is still stuck in the New Editor after logging back in to WPcom rather than being taken to the Dashboard Classic Editor.

But, since it seems that there are other threads where both the OP and others in this thread have given feedback on the change, I’ll ask to have this thread closed to further replies.

I am a bit tired of these “YOU’VE GOT TO USE THE MODE WE GIVE YOU” switches. I’ve just clicked the edit button at bottom of an older post and it has NO link to switch is back to Classic mode. BRING BACK THAT LINK, PLEASE!!!!

@cbiancardi – If you don’t like the new editor, then go straight to your site’s Classic Dashboard and add or edit Posts from there. No one is forcing you to create Posts in the New Editor.

I’ve been here for 8 years and haven’t touched the new Editor since it was introduced.

This is what @cbiancardi does not understand. And he gets mad when I try to explain…

    Me too.

Thanks Justjennifer, it’s bookmarked and got me where I wanted. I don’t use a computer to post, I use an iPad. I don’t use a computer for anything anymore. I started this blog from my iPad last June. Signed up and everything so I don’t get a drop down menu like you are referring to that I can find, but I’ll try again.
I’m still a newbie at this. Galios I hope you can tell me how to get to the classic dashboard?
Thanks to all for their help.

@fearsomebeard-are you using the iOS app on your iPad or logging in directly on WordPress.com? If the latter, what browser are you using?

actually, SHE DOES understand the issue very well, @galois

You and @justjennifer aren’t understanding what I am asking. So, take YOUR anger elsewhere.

  • Unknown's avatar

Your post is very weird, @cbiancardi. Maybe the code is wrong….
    Cheers.

P.S: I am not angry, but maybe you do. ;)

  • Unknown's avatar

@galois, not angry – you are the one projecting it. My post is not weird, you wanted to insult me and state I didn’t understand.

Perhaps english isn’t your first language, so cheers.

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m talking about the code, @cbiancardi
The code. Dou you understand this?

You are so rude and angry. I understand you’re angry but not advisable. No need to create one and repeated a thousand threads about the same. Again, Do You understand this?

I’m logging into WordPress through safari on my iPad. I don’t use the app, I have it but prefer the website. I just keep the iPad logged into it 7/24. Thank you for your help. It means a lot.

@fearsomebeard-Not having an iPad or Safari, I am at a big disadvantage to helping you, but I will try to create some screenshots tomorrow morning which may help you. It is quite late here.

    Meanwhile, can you try this:
    1. Look at the top of your browser window now. Do you see the “My Sites” link at the upper left? When you click on it, it should bring you to the Stats window of your primary WPcom website in the New Blue Dash.
    2. On the left side of that window you should see a number of links, including one to “WP Admin”. Clicking on it should open a new window and bring you to your site’s Classic Dashboard.
    3. On the left side of that window you should see a section called Posts. Clicking on it will open a sub-menu, including “All Posts” and “Add New Posts”.

Essentially, this is the same as what I described in my first reply to you https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/what-happened-to-my-classic-post-and-edit-pages?replies=15#post-2310336 but in more detail.

If that is not happening for you, please describe to me in as much detail as possible, what you see when you follow those steps and I will do my best to reply tomorrow. Until then…

Yes your instructions are perfect! Thank you for this. It’s a shame it can’t be my default it once was but it is easy to get there this way, now that I know. I’ve been so used to clicking the pencil icon on the right corner and having the classic pop up, I never went into it this way.
I hope you have a good night. It’s sunny and almost 90 degrees F here in San Diego at the moment.

    You’re welcome!

I agree that it’s a shame, but you can bookmark the page. :)

  • Unknown's avatar

I guess that’s how I get to the classic edit page. Don’t ever click on that pencil icon on the top of the page unless it is on connection with editing an image.
