What happened to my comments?
-
No one can comment on my latest posts. The reply box is gone. Everything seems to be right in my settings (clicked for comments, etc) but only I can comment, when in edit.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
I didn’t realize this form when to the forum. Apologies for the double post. Is there a way to get some real help with an issue or is it just a wait it out kind of deal? Not to be snarky, just impatient ;-)
-
ok, so in poking around I found another blogger with the same issue who resolved it. I did what he did (went to dashboard, clicked on the post, edited the “screen options” to include discussion, and just like that, there was a com box again. But so far it has only worked on that first (most recent) post. I’ll keep attempting to fix the others until I either get another option or give up. Any other ideas out there? Will I have to manually accept comments on each post I publish from now on??
-
Ahh, and then I have to go to the bottom of the edit and click on comments. Is this for real what I have to do for every post from now on? Or will it be automatic now that I’ve made this change and I’m just updating the old posts? I’m really not pleased that this is such a pain to figure out. Or get any help.

Hello there,
Please confirm that your settings are correctly set. All WordPress blogs by default have comments open on all Pages and Posts. You can enable and disable comments on free hosted WordPress.com blogs on this page > Settings > DiscussionDiscussion settings is where you set up defaults for comments.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/You can override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any individual post or page.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/enable-disable-comments/Any existing posts or pages will need to have comments disabled manually via editing. You can use the bulk edit feature in the all posts and all pages screen to make that quicker.

See also http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/04/23/comments-off-1/ under “Faster way” and “Even faster”Note: By default, new blogs on WordPress.com will have the Discussion hidden. You can reveal it by clicking on Screen Options http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ on the top right corner of your Admin page, and checking the box that says Discussion so the module is included. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules
I believe what you have done is closed comments and replaced them with a contact form which you now need to remove and open comments again.

I’m unclear on how I closed the comments in the first place. I didn’t change anything (until I put up the contact form b/c nothing else was working.) Is that a new update or some such to wordpress?
Thanks for your reply! This has been really frustrating. -
I’m so sorry you did not realize you ought not to have changed any comment settings. Best wishes for trouble-free future blogging.

I must say, it seems silly to by default both allow comments and yet hide the discussion module and therefor the comments.
