what happened to my deactivated website
-
I had a website set up on WordPress, but I transferred my domains to another platform. My former website has now completely disappeared – WordPress is telling me I have no account, no site, not anything. PLEASE help – I need access to this old site before completely deactivating it.

Hello!
Thank you for reaching out.
To avoid any confusion, let’s distinguish between three versions of “WordPress”:
- The free, open-source WordPress software powering your website.
- WordPress.org, the open-source project where you can obtain the software for free to use on your chosen hosting provider.
- WordPress.com, a managed hosting provider of the WordPress software, which is the platform you are currently contacting.
Your site wasn’t hosted here at WordPress.com, which is why you’re seeing a “no site” message. However, I can help guide you in the right direction.
You would need to contact the hosting provider who was hosting your WordPress installation to get help with accessing your old WordPress install. By moving the domain to point at Squarespace, you lost the ability to access your WordPress site since you can’t access two different websites with one domain. Your host should be able to provider a temporary domain or IP address you can use to access your WordPress site.
I hope this clears things up! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
