what happened to my icon?
-
I keep trying to upload my “icon” but it does’t appear
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. Please be more specific: which icon are you talking about? There are two kinds: Gravatar and Blavatar
http://en.support.wordpress.com/avatars/ -
It’s called blog picture/icon in general settings, in the dashboard. I chose a pic of an artichoke and it should appear where the pink thing is.
I did read about gravatar and blavatar, but was beyond my experience so it didn’t register.

A Gravatar is linked to your username.
A Blavatar is your blog avatar: that’s under Settings > General.
Now that you know this, please read the link I gave you carefully and please try not to confuse the two: in other words, going to Settings > General will NOT change the “pink thing” on the forum. -
Thank you so much for explaining. I think I’ve done it.
I think I have a gravatar now and i think I understand that it will appear everywhere, so I’ve deleted my profile until I see how it works. Will I need a blavatar as well?
Please forgive my ignorance. I have never before needed to know about avatars etc. Although I have used computers for 30 years as a tool for my work and organising my life, I have too many other interests to study IT in depth. People always advise that you should only learn what you need to, with the analogy that you don’t need to know how a car works to drive one. I don’t agree!
I am not a dummy or an idiot, though the complexities revealed in forums suggest that even brilliant geeks have difficulties. -
Your Gravatar is showing up properly, including here in the forums. As of this moment, it’s an artichoke, as you described previously.
A Blavatar is optional. Uploading one will change the icon displaying next to your blog’s address when people visit your blog.
Does that answer all your questions?

Thanks, you have very kindly solved that particular problem. I’m sure there will be more, but at least now I can begin putting stuff on (mostly pages) and inviting people to have a look. I hadn’t imagined there would be such complexity. I am not seeking fame or fortune, merely to keep in touch with the many people who wonder what’s happened to me, as I don’t have time to communicate with them all individually.
I’m going to learn one thing each day and hope to do it properly eventually.
