What happened to my main page?

  Hi,
  I have a problem with my main page: There seems to be a white rectangle appearing right in the middle of my page and covering my main photograph when it didn’t before. I haven’t made any changes to my wordpress for a long time and just noticed a few days ago that something was going on. Today I tried to fix it but I don’t have access to the code for this “custom” page. Can you help me?
  I don’t understand why this white stripe has suddenly appeared and also, as I checked using another computer I noticed there seems to be a white stripe on the far right side which didn’t used to appear either and now is there.

  I’m a bit worried because this is my work website and I urgently need this problem to be fixed. How can I get it to display the way it used to?

  That’s the placeholder for the slideshow of the theme. You disable it in Appearance > Theme Options. You populate it by uploading images to the posts that show on the main posts page. See this post of mine too:
