What happened to my new post page, and my edit page?
-
My “new post” and “edit” page no longer has icons (correct terminology?) to assist for the “visual.” Things like bold, italic, underline, image, etc. What I see instead are tiny boxes where the icons used to be, that say F2/00 F2/01 F2/03 etc. I can hover over them and get text to see what I’m looking for, but it’s annoying. If I click on the “text” box (next to the visual box), then I see words for my cues, but no icons.
Is this something wrong on WP’s end, or is it my computer? Is there something I can do on my end to get it back to the way it was?
I wish I could give you a screenshot, which I have, but have no idea how to post it. If you need a screenshot, please guide me how to do it.
I only see this problem in my Firefox browser, which is the browser that I use all the time, and I’m not seeing the problem on IE. Is this called a unicode character problem? I have no idea how everything changed on these pages – it was never like this before.
Sorry for my lack of knowledge here. Appreciate any help you can offer
Thanks in advance.

Hello there,
I wish I could give you a screenshot, which I have, but have no idea how to post it. If you need a screenshot, please guide me how to do it.
Please post screenshot, upload it to your Media Library, and return to this thread to provide the file name so Staff can examine it.
In situations like this we have no help to offer unless the bloggers experiencing issues provide us with specific information pertaining to their own blogging environment. Please work through these steps below and then report your specifics back to us.
1. Exactly what kind of device are you using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com?
2. What is the URL of the site you refer to please?
3. Are you logging in under the exact same username account that registered that blog?
4. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
5. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/
(a) Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
If applicable see here for instructions on how to clear the cache for Chrome and Safari on the iPad:
http://browsers.about.com/od/howtousemobilebrowser1/ss/safari-ipad-clear-cache.htm
(b) Make sure that you have both third-party cookies enabled and JavaScript enabled
http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654
(c) Disable all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily.
(d) Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
Add both *.wordpress.com and *.wp.com to your list of trusted sites under the Security tab. Make sure to uncheck the box for “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.” http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/#frequently-asked-questions
6. If you are not successful let us know:
(a) How you are connecting to the internet and to WordPress.com.
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://www.whatbrowser.org/
(c) And what any error reports you receive state. -

I followed all the other troubleshooting tips above; still no change. I’ve rebooted my computer, too.
I will wait for Staff help. Thank you.

If possible, please try a different computer to see if you also encounter this issue there. It does look like a local issue though. Can you confirm that you’ve tried other browser too? and disabled any browser add-ons/extensions or software that could block a connection, like anti-malware or firewall software?
Thank you!

I suspect it’s a Firefox issue. Tomorrow I will check it on Firefox on another computer that I have access to. I’ve tried different browsers on my computer, and also on my iPad on Safari, and the visual editor icons work fine everywhere but on my Dell PC via Firefox. I’ve tried disabling add-ons and extensions, too, with no effect. Btw, this is something new, like in the past month.
I believe I’m having the same problem that I’m reading about here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/missing-visual-editor-and-media-icons-not-fixing-with-refreshreboot-im-admin?replies=11

I suspect it’s a UK issue. See the sticky thread at the top of the forums for more information.

HA!!!!
I just found my answer in this post:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/no-icons-in-visual-new-post-screen?replies=20I followed these directions, and now my visual icons are all working:
In Firefox
Tools
Options
Content
Fonts & Colors
Advanced
check Allow pages to choose their own fontsI can only think that maybe with a fairly recent Firefox update that box became unchecked, because I certainly did not change it.
