What happened to the free for life option?
-
Hello,
I have started blogs with WordPress in the past and have never had to pay. The features that came with the free option were all that I needed. I’m trying to start a new blog, but when I type in my desired domain name, the only options I see are paid plans that are free for just one year. What happened the free for life plan?
Thanks,
Luke

Perhaps the address you want is already taken. Remember free for life sites are subdomains that end in .wordpress.com. Paid plans aren’t free for one year but include the option of a custom domain free for the first year.

I see. I had only typed in my blog’s name. When I added .wordpress.com to the end of it, I gave me the free option. Odd that it didn’t make it more clear that you need to do that to see the free option. Maybe I missed something.
Thank you very much for your reply!

I was able to begin editing the site, but now when I click “Launch Site”, it asks me to type in the desired domain again. No free option is listed, even when I type in [blog name].wordpress.com. Do I need to pay to make it public?

When you click “launch” don’t type anything in the top field. You have already created a site. Just click “continue with free” next to your free address which is below the offers of two paid domains.
