What happens if I change the domain I am mapping

  • Unknown's avatar

I want to change the domain I am mapping my site to. What happens if I do that? Will those who are following my blog have a broken link to my posts and pages?

How many domains can I map to one site? I have not found this answer anywhere.

    Thanks in advance.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

if you remove the domain mapping the URLs revert to the underlying .wordpress.com URLs and that means every domain URL is broken wherever it appears on the internet. Anyone clicking the domain links will experience a 404 (page not found. Also the subscriber subscribe to the URL and if they subscribed to the domain URL then they have to resubscribe to the underlying .wordpress.com URL.

If you already have a website you don’t want to affect, and you want to add a blog to it under a subdomain (for example, blog.yourgroovydomain.com) it’s a separate upgrade. See: http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-subdomain/

I don’t know how domain mapping upgrades you can apply to a single blog. I’ll tag this thread for a Staff response. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

    Thanks on both points!

  • timethief is correct on both points, as for the last question, you can map an unlimited number of domains to your blog, but only one can be primary and all others will redirect to the primary.
