What happens to a domain that's transferred TO WordPress and is about to expire?

  I’m transferring a domain to wordpress.com. Will wordpress.com automatically purchase the domain once it expires on the old hosting site?

  Hi,

  WordPress.com doesn’t accept incoming transfers of domain names. Please do renew it with your previous registrar (or transfer it to a different registrar if you’d prefer).

  You can map your existing domain name to WordPress.com, but that still requires that the domain is registered somewhere.
