what happens to my content if I upgrade?

If I upgrade my free account, will I lose the content I have already published? Will the wordpress account be linked and forwarded to my new .com account?

In order to remove the .wordpress.com URL and replace that with a domain URL you have to purchase either a Premium upgrade http://store.wordpress.com/plans/premium/ or a Business upgrade http://store.wordpress.com/plans/business/. Both upgrades are renewable annually and you are billed annually for them.

Thank you for your quick response. So if I understand correctly, if someone types in my new .com address on google etc., they can see my current @wordpress.com content AND my new .com content. They will be merged together, without having to change from one account to another.

If you purchase an upgrade and domai9n mapping is put in place visitors will see the same content whether or not they use the original URL or the new domain URL. They will be seamlessly redirected if they use the original URLs to the same content under the new domain URLs. That is what domain mapping does.
