What happens when forwaded (to wordpress.com) domain name hosted expires

I had registered my domain name with Network Solutions and it expires June 23, 2013. I forwarded the domain to wordpress,com and that will be auto-renewed on May 10, 2013.
When my domain registration expires on Network Solutions, do I need to do anything to make sure it continues to be registered to me at wordpress.com when the Network Solutions expiration is approaching?

Your domain is only mapped here, so if you allow the registration to expire, you will lose ownership of the domain.
You’ll need to renew it with your current registrar to avoid that.

Is there a way to move such that wordpress would become the registrar for it? It just would be more convenient to have everything in one place.
