What has happened to prevent Word 2007 from posting blogs and registering accts?

  • Unknown's avatar

This morning, while trying to publish a draft post from Word (2007), I got the message saying it was unable to post my blog. I tried a couple of times, then tried deleting my account from Word and re-registering. Now it is telling me, “Word cannot register your account”. My blog post URL is http://inlight.wordpress.com/xmlrpc.php. This worked last week. Nothing has changed on this end. What about yours?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You’re welcome. My guess is that this may be an https:// issue. Note that Staff are implementing a URL change to the more secure https://
    https://inlight.wordpress.com/

That was it!! Thanks! Now the question: Why no notification? Or did I miss it?

I want to chime in here and say that finding this thread finally explained (and fixed) my problem of suddenly finding inexplicable failures in trying to post a new note to my blog, with repeated error messages from Word 2007 saying “Word cannot publish this post”.

I’ve probably wasted close to 2 hours of my day here beating my brains out and being utterly baffled and massively frustrated by this, until, finally, a web search pointed me to this page (after many other web search hits turned up a parade of pages that were no help).

I want to scream and punch somebody right now.

A helpful hint here- if something is changed that suddenly breaks something basic, it might, perhaps, be a useful idea to at least maybe add some attention grabbing item in the user dashboard somewhere, or something, that explains this.

This is an INCREDIBLY stupid failure, especially when the problem turns out to be such a simple thing.

    Hi there,
I here your frustration. We can subscribe to this blog http://en.blog.wordpress.com/ but not every change made is announced there. I tagged this thread for Staff to take notice of your suggestion and feedback. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

    araraghghh!

    I hear your frustration.

I’m pretty sure WordPress has our email addresses. Why not send a notification for something like this? I too wasted at least a couple of hours trying to figure this out. Final word: I am very grateful someone gave me a heads up.

  • Unknown's avatar

We are expected to subscribe to announcements here http://en.blog.wordpress.com/ if we want to be notified.

    timethief,

I hear you. However, this major change was not announced at that site on the day it was made. Also, that site seems to have posts that are less critical from a support standpoint. I know you are caught in the middle of this. I’m just hoping someone with the clout to make this better hears the frustration. There is a better way.

    BTW: What does “timethief” mean?

    Have a blessed day,

    Rob

As I indicated above this thread is tagged for Staff attention and a response.

    BTW: What does “timethief” mean?

We are all terminal and some of us are in remission ie. we are living on borrowed time. I took this username after defeating the grim reapers first two attempts to harvest my life. I took it long before there was a different connotation ascribed to this username. :)

    Namaste Rob

    This gets even worse.

First- I didn’t bookmark this page, and just had a hell of a load of wasted time trying to find it again. That included even searching in the “search” box ON THIS SITE for MY OWN USERNAME, which did not turn this up.

    I obviously found it, finally.

So now, second… seriously? Everybody is expected to read a blog that I can’t recall ever knowing about before, to get a heads up about a major change that, as we now see, completely and fundamentally breaks a previously working process, with no clues to the blog author as to why this is happening.

Third… in the process of trying to find this again, searching, I found other examples of people baffled and stopped dead by this problem, judging from available information in those instances, with things like this-
    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/posting-from-word?replies=9#post-2204125

… where, you’ll see, not only is somebody’s problem not diagnosed and solved, but they’re led through pointless jumping through hoops, and even worse….

    … wait for it…

THE THREAD IS CLOSED TO REPLIES FROM ANYBODY OTHER THAN THE PERSON POSTING THE PROBLEM AND THE ‘HAPPINESS ENGINEER’ TASKED WITH SOLVING IT, so that nobody can step in and take it upon themselves to say “dude, I see what your problem is because I just ran into it yesterday”.

    Hi folks,

A couple of things to respond to. If I don’t address everything I apologize and I’ll try to hit it the next time around.

@Rob, I’m glad that you got things working. I’m sorry that it took a few hours out of your day. We don’t email all of our users with each of our updates because not all users want to know about each and every update. We update WordPress.com literally hundreds of times every single week, from minor changes which hardly anybody would even notice all the way up to changes like we’re talking about which keep communications safe from potentially malicious third parties. We can’t even put all of these changes in our blog, much less send emails about them, I hope you understand.

@John, I’m very sorry to hear that you are frustrated with our forums and the site in general. If you ever want to follow a forum thread so that you get notified of updates you can do so from the column of links on the right hand side of the screen. In regard to the post which you mentioned, my coworker did not lock that thread, the way in which that user contacted us meant that it would always be a 1 on 1 but public conversation between the two of them. It helps people find information however does not allow others to add to the conversation.

Let me know if you guys have any questions about the Windows Office issue and I’ll be happy to look in to it for you.
