What I just did
-
Hi. I just renewed my domain address at what I thought was an $18.00 fee but in the final payment module it read $82.00. I did authorize and now am reconsidering. Pls explain to me what this figure represents and why and what is ether my monthly fee or annual fee. Thank you. Paul White 732-496-9362

Hi there,
I am pretty sure it’s probably the late fee for for your domain expiring.
Check out this link for more info:
Grace Period
For most TLDs registered through WordPress.com, an expired domain falls into a grace period for about 10 days to two weeks. During this short window, the domain can be renewed at the regular price. If you experience difficulty renewing your domain during this time, go to the My Upgrades page. There will be a link to contact Support for further assistance.
Redemption Period
After the grace period ends, your domain enters the redemption period, the length of which can vary. This means the domain name can still be renewed, but there is an $80.00 redemption fee required in addition to the normal renewal cost. (This is standard practice for domain registrars.)
This late fee is controlled by the registrar, not WordPress.com.
I hope this helps explain things! If you have any more questions, please let us know.
Thanks and have a nice day! :-)
